BMW Makes a Comeback to ALMS
Unveiled at the Chicago Auto Show, the all new purpose built GTR variant of the BMW E92 M3 is slated to race in the 2009 season of the American Le Mans Series.
Rahal Letterman Racing has teamed up with BMW North America to make this possible. Rahal mentions that he is aware of BMW’s rich history in motor racing and is glad to be a part of it. They feel that the 485bhp V8 powered GTR car will do as its predecessors did and make history once again. Creating the race version of the M3 was not an easy task as the production model itself was already at the top of its game. Inherently, the engineers at BMW M GmbH did manage to make a number of improvements and are now in the testing phase of its production with Praiulx, Muller and Farfus at the wheel for the next few months.
