Automobile Makes and Models Bugatti. Bugatti is one of the fastest marques of automobile and one of the most exclusive Italian-French car producers of all time. The company is legendary for producing a few of the fastest sports cars in the world. Like many high-end marques, the original Bugatti failed with the coming of World War II, but the name has been resurrected twice, most recently under the Volkswagen Group, for this, see Bugatti Automobiles SAS.

Although, just minutes from Guildford town centre and easily accessible via the A3 and M25 not to mention Heathrow and Gatwick airports Loseley Park is a veritable oasis of tranquillity. Perhaps predictably given that it nestles within the Surrey Hills (themselves designated an area of outstanding natural beauty these past fifty years), the 1400-acre estate provided a wonderfully picturesque backdrop to H&H;’s first summer 2008 auction. Held in a large clearspan marquee with stunning views over the surrounding countryside, the two-day event attracted visitors from throughout the British Isles as well as Ireland, France, Switzerland, Germany and Italy. While strong telephone bidding from the Americas and Far East helped enliven proceedings still further.

H&H; has built a large clientbase both at home and aboard and having sold a European entered 1935 Alfa Romeo 6C 2300 Pescara Spyder at its February 2008 Cheltenham auction, the company was pleased to offer a 1937 Bugatti Type 57 Sports Saloon on behalf of a Dutch lady last Sunday. The last of seven Bugattis to pass through her family’s hands and one that she had been driving since the age of eighteen, the pillarless four-door was in careworn but highly original condition. Reputedly a one-off, its beautifully detailed coachwork and delightful patina captivated an Irish enthusiast who fulfilled his teenage dream by securing the car against determined opposition for £143,000 (some forty percent over low estimate).

No less delighted were the couple who bought the 1968 Lamborghini 400GT 2+2 (one of six RHD examples) for £104,500 after it had been in single ownership for thirty-four years. Proving that black never goes out of fashion, the 1975 Jaguar E-type V12 Roadster Commemorative comfortably exceeded its top estimate at £79,200 despite somewhat imperfect paintwork. Indeed, all three of the E-type V12 Roadsters found new homes, the other two taking £38,500 and £36,300 respectively. It was a good day for open four-seaters too, the ex-Jools Holland 1965 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III Drophead Coupe commanding £79,750, the elegant 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SE 3.5 Cabriolet £56,100, the sensational 1956 Oldsmobile Super Rocket 88 Convertible £48,400 and the stylish 1964 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTC £22,000.
