MOST OF US PRIDE ourselves on being open-minded, able to accept a new experience without prejudice. So, if I told you that the new compact 2012 Buick Verano was worth a test drive, would you believe me? Most likely, no. To most folks, Buicks are soft-riding geazer pleasers meant for cruising slowly in the left lane with a driver oblivious to the fact that their left turn signal is flashing.  

Instead of picking a single winner, we will recommend five sedans: the Buick LaCrosse, Chevrolet Malibu, Chrysler 200, Lexus ES 350 and the Toyota Camry. All five are midsize cars with standard or optional six-cylinder engines that should provide ample ride comfort. The ES 350 is pricier because it’s from a luxury brand, but we mention it as an example of a quality sedan that offers a high level of comfort and refinement.
