2009 Dodge Ram Production Starts

There was much cause for celebration at the production launch of the all new Dodge Ram pickup truck. The truck is what the company is calling a “game changer”, and it introduces a lot of innovation to the truck world, most notably the new multilink coil spring rear suspension system, an industry first.

To handle ramped up production of the 2009 Ram, Chrysler invested $220 million in the Warren Truck Assembly plant. The facility dates back to 1937 and is even nicknamed “Dodge City.” The investment included expansion, restructuring and training which among other changes, put five times more quality assurance workers on the plant floor (good thing). The plant is also going to be recycling everything from tires and oil to alcohol wipes and even old dirty mop heads.

The Ram regular cab, crew cab and Quad Cab pickups in five trim levels will all be built at the plant. Chrysler will also build a few of the trucks at it’s St. Louis North plant in Missouri. The RamBox cargo management system will be produced exclusively at the St. Louis facility though. Chrysler also said that this new Ram will have a lower starting point than the outgoing model it replaces.
