French auto maker PSA Peugeot Citroen said on Thursday it needed to cut 6,000 jobs in France between now and 2012 in order to boost productivity. Peugeot chairman Philippe Varin, outlining 2010-2012 performance plan for the group, said the reductions would come through the non-replacement of workers leaving the company voluntarily. "Our assessment today is that we do not need a supplemental restructuring plan," he said. He added that Peugeot would have to boost productivity, or worker output per hour, by 20 percent, which would require the elimination of 10 percent of the work force, or 6,000 jobs. A few weeks ago appeared on the web, the first two images of the new Peugeot 308 Sedan, (this model will also be marketed in China as 408 Sedan).Not long ago comment that the 308 is a 307 Mercosur remarked, as the 207 Compact of 206. Sanyo Electric Co. will supply nickel-metal hydride batteries for PSA Peugeot Citroen Group's diesel-electric hybrid cars starting in 2011, a report said Sunday. Sanyo and Peugeot Citroen have agreed that Sanyo will ship batteries for several tens of thousands of cars per year, the Japanese business daily Nikkei reported, without revealing its sources. The batteries will be used in the Peugeot 3008 sports utility vehicle and the Citroen DS5 luxury car, models the group plans to roll out in 2011, it said. Peugeot may have just come late to the idea of crossover, but the word appears so often in all publicity material must compensate for the new 3008 for each time lag. Here, there are some that cross the boundaries: the 3008 is part SUV, part estate car, the hatchback, the MPV. France launched the "battle of the electric car" Thursday as it unveiled plans to invest 1.5 billion euros on infrastructure for the two million electric and hybrid cars it wants on the road by 2020.
