A single-engine airplane travelling from Urbana, Illinois to Ada, Ohio crash landed in a corn field just short of the runway at Bellefontaine Municipal Airport in Bellefontaine, Ohio.  A few minutes before 3 PM on Sunday, March 15th, the engine failed on the Beechcraft Sierra (N9348S) forcing the pilot to divert to Bellefontaine and attempt an emergency landing.  Kevin Mierzejewski, the pilot of the plane attempted to reach the airport, but landed short of the runway in the corn field.

Unfortunately, the aircraft struck a fence and had substantial damage to the landing gear and both wings.  James Grant Laird was the only other occupant of the aircraft and was fine.
