Rays’ Upton a high-risk trade alternative to Beltran

By KROWM on  From krowm.com
Anthony Witrado, Sporting News     The possibilities had scouts salivating. B.J. Upton was as close to a sure bet as a high school kid could be, a five-tool player in waiting with enough athleticism to excel at any sport. Luckily for the Tampa Bay organization, he chose baseball. B.J. Upton, talented yet tainted, is stuck in the rumor mill. This could be his last week with the Rays. (AP Photo) After a scintillating senior year – he batted .641 (50-for-78) with 11 home runs and 32 RBIs and...Read Full Story

By adgmlb12 on  From speculativesports.com
With the Major League Baseball trade deadline starting to appear on the horizon, the rumor mill starts to grind a little harder and according to Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal, a possible trade of B.J. Upton to the Washington Nationals could provide extra grist. As for the Nats, they continue to dream of a trade for the Rays’ B.J. Upton, who is from the same part of Virginia as the team’s biggest star, third baseman Ryan Zimmerman. It’s difficult to imagine the Rays trading Upton and promoting...Read Full Story

MLB Trade Rumors: Tampa said to be looking to unload B.J Upton

By Joseph M. Jones on  From yourkillinmesmalls.wordpress.com
Today just seems to be one for Rays related rumors. The perception among teams is that the Rays are ready to move center fielder B.J. Upton now, writes ESPN’s Buster Olney.  Olney believes the Rays “will listen to just about every trade proposal thrown their way” in general.  He’s of the opinion that the team’s front office faces limited backlash, since attendance is already poor. Talk about an understatement. Upton, 26, is hitting .237/.319/.411 on the season and is due another raise on this...Read Full Story
