Together with its twin, the Französischen Dom (French Cathedral), the Deutscher Dom (German Cathedral) provides a stunning backdrop to Gendarmenmarkt, Berlin’s prettiest square. The original structure was completed in 1708, but it was not until 1785 that the impressive dome by Karl Gontard was added.
