I think we’ve all heard the phrase, “storybook wedding,” but what about a storybook
baby shower theme? Here are some ideas:
Baby Shower Invitations:- Find some old storybooks from a yard sale, garage sale, thrift store or your own storage. If the book is damaged, then you’ll feel less guilty about this project. Use the storybook pages to make handmade baby shower invitations.
- Choose a create and print baby shower invitation or photo card that you can customize with pages from storybooks.
- Make envelopes for the baby shower invitations using a template and storybook pages. You’ll need some mailing labels for the addresses.
Baby shower cake:
- Ask a bakery to bake a storybook themed baby shower cake using a “Once upon a time,” theme and storybook icons (toys, candles, etc.).
- Bake the cake yourself, and embellish it with store-bought storybook themed toys.
Baby shower decorations:
- Taking from the same idea as the baby shower invitations, take pages from old storybooks to create your baby shower decorations with. Create paper chains, snowflakes, paper flowers, and so on.
- Pick up storybooks to use to hold down helium balloons, and use as trivets placed underneath serving platters and bowls.
Baby shower favors:
- Hit the dollar store or the dollar section of the craft store and pick up miniature storybooks and pop-up storybooks to hand out as favors. Place a piece of ribbon tied in a circle around the book with a tag about the baby shower.
- Create origami art using pages from storybooks with a tag on them about the baby shower. If the origami has a pocket or bowl area, place some candy inside.
Baby shower game:
- Play baby bingo using folded up storybook pages as the game pieces.
- Play “guess that story” by reading passages from popular storybooks.
- Have a scavenger hunt where guests look for storybooks based on clues you give them.
- Play “Pictionary” using storybook titles or phrases as the clues.
Baby shower card:
- Follow the same lead as the baby shower invitations for the baby shower cards.
- Consider picking up a pre-designed baby shower card and place it inside a new storybook for the new baby.
- Do something completely unexpected and send a customized e-card.
Baby shower gift:
- Give the mom-to-be a set of classic storybooks for the new baby.
- Pre-pay for a “storybook of the month” club for the new parents and new baby to enjoy throughout the year together.
- Create a collage on the matte of a picture frame for the parents to use for the new baby after it is born.
Baby shower food:
- Choose foods that are featured in storybooks (minus the poison apples!)
- Organize the food on platters so it looks like pictures, themes, or ideas from storybooks.
- Cook from children’s recipe books, and use the books as decorations on the buffet table.
- Create recipe cards for each of the storybook themed foods you make for the baby shower so each guest can bring a set home.
There’s so much room for imagination when it comes to a storybook themed baby shower. Don’t be afraid to do something untraditional because, after all, there are a lot of unexpected twists and turns in the plots of storybooks! Have fun!
