Lone Mountain

Hiking Length: 1 mile roundtrip

Elevation gain: 537 feet

Difficulty: Moderate

Water availability: No

Getting there: Lone mountain is located on the northwest side of the Las Vegas Valley. At the intersection of the Beltway (215) and Lone Mountain Road, the southeast corner of the intersection is a gravel drive to the base of the mountain, the gravel road leads all the way to the park down the hill. You can park at any reasonable parking site. There are several trails up but the designated trail begins on the 215 side.

Lone Mountain just out of the horizon as a prelude to larger mountains to the west. This short hike is easily accessed from Las Vegas since it is in town, and makes great for a short but powerful hike up 537 feet. Once to the top though, get ready for 360° views of the entire valley!

I was hoping on the sunset to make the mountains glow behind the skyline but this ended up being a windy day, and with the smog already here mixed with the dust from the wind, the city actually almost dissappeared.

The birds that I encountered was the most intresting birds. I think this is my absolute favorite picture of a bird, that I have taken.
