Famous Gardeners in the US – William Moss

William Moss US gardenerAs the gardening revolution continues to sweep across the US it is becoming quite fascinating to read about some of the US gardeners that are helping to keep the revolution going. William Moss is one such gardener. He claims himself, that teaching is his vocation and gardening is his passion – this is truly a great mix to help gardening become available to all. William Moss is involved in a number of projects that help to spread the word about gardening. Working with teenagers and adults at the Chicago Botanic Garden appears to be a particular project that is close to his heart.

The Chicago Botanic Garden is an amazing garden experience that each year produces over 250,000 plants, for both the indoor and outdoor displays. There is a dedicated team that manage plant production in the vast nursery and the displays of the plants and flowers can be viewed all year round and all around the gardens. In the outdoor themed gardens such as the Landscape Garden, Fruit & Vegetable Garden, Heritage Garden, Waterfall Garden, Japanese Garden and English Walled Garden plants and shrubs are produced to fit the themes of these very different kinds of garden styles. Visitors can wander through the gardens at their leisure and can even view displays in the public garden greenhouses. The nursery is the key to the continued successful planting in the gardens and luckily the vast greenhouses are also able to house plants for overwintering so they are not lost to the colder weather. William Moss is sure right to be pleased that he works at the gardens.

William Moss has also worked on a number of TV channels teaching about landscape design and more recently has been working with the National Gardening Association as an expert urban gardener. William explains that he lives for his urban gardens that span a number of locations in Chicago. He comments that he has a roof deck garden, balcony container garden, a community plot and is also allowed to use his mother in laws backyard. William does not have a particular theme he grows a number of different things depending on the space including fruits and vegetables, woodies, tropical plants and water garden species and is proud to say this is all done in the busy urban setting.

William Moss is quite a fascinating US gardener in that he studied for the Master Gardeners qualification with his future wife in Chicago and has never really looked back. Enjoying some of the best gardens in the Chicago area and having the vast expanse of the Chicago Botanical Gardens and their huge greenhouses that can help with teaching kids and members of the public about gardening, his is a truly inspirational story. It is no wonder why the gardening revolution is continuing to sweep through the US with gardeners such as William Moss that highlight the enjoyment and versatility of urban gardening, whether it be on a rooftop, a backyard or in greenhouses – there is always something that people can grow and get some enjoyment from.
