What are eyelash extensions?

Eyelash extensions are just like hair extensions and can add a fuller body to the natural eyelashes by bonding with the. They are different from the false eyelashes that are available in the market. The eyelash extensions are made of polyester like materials and they are individually applied to the eyelashes. A surgical grade adhesive is used of attaching the eyelash extensions to the eyelash. Fake eyelashes are a single set of lashes that are glued together and can be removed after the event. However, eyelash extensions when properly attached o the natural set of eyelashes can be worn during sleep, taking a shower or even swimming.

The procedure for attaching the eyelash extensions can approximately take about 1.5 – 2.5 hours depending on the number of lashes being individually applied. These extensions can last for a period of 2 weeks to 2 months. This is dependent entirely on the cycle of hair growth for the eyelash. This is the reason that the period can differ from person to person. The eyelash extensions are available in many colors such as brown, red, and green and purple, though the most popular choice is black eyelash extensions. Even eyebrow extensions are available; however they aren’t as popular as eyelash extensions. Mink eyelash extensions are also available and can cost $500 and above for each set of eyelash extensions for each eye.

Most salon users and technicians will however use nylon based eyelash hair and not mink for the eyelash extensions. The eyelash extensions have been made more famous by the A grade Hollywood celebrities. False eyelash strips or even sets of false eyelashes aren’t considered to be eyelash extensions. Natural hair has a natural cycle and thus when the eyelash hair completes a cycle, it will fall out and along with it, and the eyelash extension will also fall out.

In most states, licensed estheticians are allowed to perform this procedure. However in some states, cosmetologists can also be allowed to perform this procedure. Depending on the area in which the salon is located, the prices can vary. Usually the cost of attaching the eyelash extensions can vary $150 to $500 per set.
