Can everybody dance?
Can everybody dance? Just about.
I help my dance instructor out occasionally. As a man, I am needed to partner un-partnered ladies who take dance lessons. I get extra lesson time for free, I help people, and my dance skills improve greatly. I partner with women of all shapes and sizes, and one thing I have noticed is that a person's size does not impact their ability to dance significantly. Now I am talking about recreational dancing of course, but I have danced with people much larger than me who I thought would be terrible but were amazing dancers and I have danced with tiny people who I thought would have no problems but couldn't dance well at all.
It is more in your head than in your body. Remembering technique is more important than your size or athletic ability. I practiced at a place where a dancer had injured their back, and needed two canes to walk, but they danced anyway. Every week I watched as they got stronger and stronger until the canes were not brought to the floor and eventually not even brought to the dance hall. I have even danced with convalescent patients in wheelchairs, who seem to enjoy it a lot.
So don't let your belief that you are out of shape or not good enough to dance. If you want to try, get out there and do it. If you are at all concerned, get your doctor's approval first, but dancing can be a great exercise. Don't be embarrassed about anything about yourself, go ahead and dance like you always wanted.
