Here we are readers. The two most important events of the last ten years of Oriole baseball. We can argue all we want about the position of the last 8 things, and you can argue that Wieters should be on this list, but I don't think that anyone can argue about these next two events. 2) Andy MacPhail Hired The Orioles have a General Manager, ONE GM. Gone are the two-headed monsters of Duquette and Beattie and Flanagan. Andrew MacPhail grandson of glory-days Oriole GM Lee MacPhail, Andy MacPahil was brought into the troubled Orioles inner-circle during the tumultuous 2007 season. Manager Sam Perlozzo ... Matt Wieters . We can't wait to see this guy squat behind home for the Baltimore Orioles . The 23-year-old 6'5" catcher will make his major league debut this Friday against the Detroit Tigers , as announced by team president Andy MacPhail this evening. It's not like he's going to single-handedly drag the Orioles out of the basement of the AL East, but it'll be fun to watch him hit. Wieters, the O's top prospect, played three years at Georgia Tech before Baltimore used their fifth overall pick on him in the 2007 amateur draft. He then split time between the Class-A Frederick Keys ... Read Full Story

Over the past week, there's been a healthy infusion of some youth in the Baltimore Orioles organization, and so far, the kids have delivered. Another young arm from Norfolk -- David Hernandez -- made his major league debut and impressed as the Orioles opened up their four game set with the Detroit Tigers winning on Thursday, 5-1. Luke Scott hit two home runs -- including a three-run shot in the 8th inning (he now has seven on the year) -- and drove in four to help Baltimore earn their fourth victory in a ro w. For the third day in row, Nolan Reimold homered ... Read Full Story

Well, here's somewhat discouraging news if you have been following the whole Mark Teixeira drama. Granted, he's not signed with anyone and no one knows what the Angels, Yankees along with the Red Sox have offered the slugger; however, it looks like Andy MacPhail may be focusing on fixing the team's other problems (IMO, should be key). Right now, the thought that is on many fans minds is whether Teixeira is going to come back to the Orioles, be the hero on the white horse and save the franchise, or spurn the organization and look for riches elsewhere. I'm not sure if the Orioles ... Read Full Story

Over the past few days, a lot of people have reacted in let's say in a negative fashion -- especially on the internet and on sports talk radio -- as to what the Orioles are doing so far with the free agent market. Of course, the man at the top -- Andy MacPhail -- is getting the brunt of the criticism for being, um, "too slow". With the exception of a few years, the notion of a "winning" Oriole team since 1990 has not existed and that's why a change was made in the middle of last season. MacPhail was hired by Peter Angelos ... Read Full Story

Although most fans and the national media are curious if Matt Wieters will find himself in the majors; however, if the Orioles (mainly, Andy MacPhail) have their way the highly touted catcher will begin in 2009 in the minors (more than likely Triple-A, rather up in Baltimore). From the Orioles.com : Andy MacPhail, Baltimore's president of baseball operations, has gone on record as saying that he'd prefer that Wieters begin the season at Triple-A Norfolk and progress to the Majors sometime before the All-Star break. That's MacPhail's mind-set, though, and Wieters prefers to think in terms of doing whatever he can to prepare himself ... Read Full Story

After ten years in the Baltimore Orioles organization, tall right-hander Daniel Cabrera was not tendered a contract by the Baltimore Orioles ; thus, making him a free agent. The Orioles attempted to deal the right-hander, 27, at the recently completed winter meetings but couldn't find a fit. So they cut ties with the wildly inconsistent but talented Cabrera, who likely would have made between $3 million and $4.5 million this year had he been offered arbitration. He wouldn't have been eligible for free agency until after the 2010 season but is now free to sign with any team. "Sometimes a change of scenery is ... Read Full Story
