The former Baltimore Raven OT has died at the age of 40, the team confirmed today.
Brown’s family became worried after not hearing from him for several days, the Ravens report. Brown was found in his Baltimore condominium. The cause of death is not known.
Brown is most remembered outside the team for being the player who was struck in the eye by a referee Jeff Triplette’s penalty flag in a 1999 game.
The injury resulted in temporary blindness. Brown ended up filing a $200 million dollar lawsuit against the NFL for prematurely ending his career. The league and Brown reached a settlement in 2002 in the range of $15-20 million dollars.
Brown then returned to the league in 2003, where he started 34 games for the Ravens over three seasons before permanently retiring.
