Classical music festival begins today

A two-day classical music festival titled “Bengal ITC SRA Classical Music Festival” will begin today evening at the National Museum in the city’s Shahbagh area.

The festival, which is going to be arranged by the Sangeet Research Academy, Kolkata and Bengal Foundation, features vocal and instrumental music by leading scholars and distinguished gurus Girija Devi and Pandit Ulhas Kashlkar of ITC Sangeet Research Academy of Kolkata.

On the opening day, Mohiuzzaman Chowdhury, Fahim H Chowdhury, Bulbul Islam, Shama Rahman, Mita Haq and Adity Mohsin will render inaugural songs. Sameehan Kashalkar and Girija Devi will present vocal presentation, while Abir Hossain will play sarod in the yesterday’s function.

On the concluding day of the festival, Waseem Ahmed Khan, Sucheta Ganguly and Pandit Ulhas Kashlkar will perform vocal presentation, while Jyoti Goho, Sajay Adhikari, Gopal Mishra and Sarwar Hossain will play Harmonium, tabla and sarengi in the programme.

This was disclosed at a press conference held at Bengal Shilpalaya in the city’s Dhanmondi area yesterday where Girija Devi, Chairman of Bengal Foundation Abul Khayer Litu, Director General of Bengal Foundation Luva Nahid Chowdhury spoke on the occasion.
