U.S. Bank plans to restructure some of its fees this year. In the initial stage, customers will face a slightly higher overdraft fee — requiring greater diligence when managing their spending to avoid a negative balance.

Lawmakers proposed a new bill to continue the fight against overdraft fees. Called the Overdraft Protection Act, the bill aims to cut down on the costs and frequency of overdrafts — and to further complement overdraft regulations from 2010.

* Bank of America $410 million settlement is largest so far May 25 (Reuters) - JPMorgan Chase & Co won preliminary court approval of its agreement to pay $110 million to settle nationwide litigation accusing it of charging excessive overdraft fees.
TD Bank is settling an overdraft fee case for $62 million, according to court filings reported by American Banker.
U.S. District Judge Lawrence King of the Southern District of Florida has to approve the settlement.
TD Bank is the thirteenth-largest bank in Central Florida, with $383.7 million in deposits and 13 branches in the area.
