Jackson Sheds Tears Of Joy and Pain At Grant Park

I saw Jesse Jackson on C-Span, at the victory party for Barack Obama at Grant Park on Tuesday. Jackson was overcome with emotion at the party. I wanted to understand exactly at what Jesse Jackson was thinking? What thought did he have as he reflected on the moment? He appeared on Larry King and felt that he was both happy, prideful, and he felt pain for everything that he and other civil rights leaders faced.

Jackson said he thought about the voting rights workers in the south who gave their lives. For Jackson it was a bittersweet moment. A moment that he felt America took a huge step by electing Barack Obama. Jackson felt that Barack Obama was sort of a redemptive spirit who redeemed the soul of America. Jackson said that this year we saw whites voting for Barack and women voting for Hilary Clinton in Mississippi.

From viewing the camera panning in on Jesse Jackson and seeing the tears that he shed. It was a bittersweet moment for us all and a feeling that here is a man that carried a lot of scars from his struggle in fighting Jim Crow during the Civil Rights movement. It is Old Civil Rights Soldiers like Jesse Jackson, who are rewarded and assured that their sacrifices were not in vain, with the victory of President Elect Barack Obama.
