President Barack Obama showed up at the All-Star Game Tuesday night to throw out the first pitch, and let's just say he's better on the basketball court.
Obama was the first president to throw at an All-Star Game since Gerald Ford in 1976. After warming up with catcher Albert Pujols, the president took to the field in a White Sox jacket to lob a high-arching pitch to Pujols, who seemed to just catch the ball. Obama was met with both cheers and boos, but Pujols reassured the prez.
"One of the things I told him was the only boos you hear are because of that jacket you're wearing," Pujols said.
Obama later joined announcers Joe Buck and Tim McCarver, where he said he showed his allegiance to the White Sox because, "Everybody knows I'm a White Sox fan, and my wife thinks I look cute in this jacket, so why not?"
The prez went on to wonder aloud why the National League hasn't won an All-Star Game since 1996.
"This is a problem," Obama said. "What's your guys' theory on that? I mean, three, four years, you can say, 'it's just happenstance.' It starts getting to be a trend when you're looking at 12 years. What's going on?"
McCarver attributed the imbalance to the American League's designated hitter rule while Buck said the AL has just been a better league. Buck asked the president if he might have a bail-out in mind for the National League.
