Iveta Benesova leads 3 Czechs into Monterrey 2nd round
Iveta Benesova beat Shahar Peer 6-4, 6-2 in the first round of the Monterrey Open.
Thanks to reaching the Hobart final in January and the Acapulco semifinals last week, Benesova improved her ranking to No. 31, her best career ranking.
After starting slowly and found herself 3-0 down to Peer, Benesova cranked up her game and didn't give Peer another break chance, leading three more Czechs into the second round.
Barbora Zahlavova Strycova defeated Anna-Lena Groenefeld 6-3 2-6 7-6 and Petra Cetkovska made it past Jarmila Groth 6-3 6-2.
Agnes Szavay, was also among the winners after defeating Pauline Parmentier and will next play against Vania King, who beat Klara Zakopalova 6-1 6-4.
