Set out on an adventure with the farmer on a very busy day. Chug along on his bright tractor as he collects the animals around the farm.
Learn to count as you collect a different number of animals from each field and make all your favourite animal noises! Can you spot the counting pattern?
As you work through the book you will notice the scenery of the farm changing as the seasons change giving lots of discussion points when reading together with a child.
Towards the end of the adventure the trailer hits a stone and chaos ensues! But I can’t give away the ending!!

What I Love About Driving my Tractor
Fantastic Full Colour Pages
As always with Barefoot Books, the illustrations are bright and cheerful and demonstrate all the things you can see on a farm, from the animals to crops and vegetables.
Not Just A Pretty Story
As with The Animal Boogie, there is more to Driving My Tractor than meets the eye on first reading:
Books Plus end notes
Apart from a brilliant reading book and a catchy music CD, the book has even more information in the end notes.
Some great pictures and information about farm machinery and tractors which I can see many little boys really enjoying!
There is a page on the crops and vegetables that farmers grow and in which season. In this day and age where very few of us have the space or the time to grow our own vegetables this will help with children’s understanding of where food comes from.
This could easily be the basis for a whole class project.
And last but not least, the music score for the Driving My Tractor tune. A great way to involve the whole family!
My husband, the most musically talented of our family, was following the music on my daughter’s xylophone; my 6 year old was playing maracas; and I could bounce my 7month old on my lap as if he was on the bumpy road.
We turned a grey and cold afternoon into a load of family fun!
1) I have previously just stopped short of buying a copy of Driving my Tractor as it used to only be available in hardback. The Hardback books with singalong CD are more expensive than the other sing-along books in the Barefoot Books range.
However from autumn 2010 the book has been published in paperback with CD making it such great value for money. (pull a mini post off this as news with review link)
2) My daughter pointed out to me that the weather changes a lot for one day! The song indicates that all this activity is happening in one busy day; however you pass through all four seasons.
Once I explained that for a farmer every day is a busy day we continued to enjoy the story. Also, again it makes a great talking point to investigate season and how farmers have to work hard every day of the year, whatever the season or weather.
