I always heard regarding Gastric Bypass that there was a certain percentage/amount that one?First, calculate your BMI using the following formula: {(weight in pounds)/(height in inches)x(height in inches)} x 703. The morbidly obese category is a BMI > 40; if you are in this category you are definitely a candidate. A lot of people who are between 35-40 will also be considered. Be advised that there is generally a requirement that you participate in 3-6 months of a doctor supervised weight loss program prior to surgery in order for insurance to pay; if you go for a consultation to discuss the surgery they can usually get you set up for this.If you are 100 pounds overweight, you’d qualify. You need to be morbidly obese, BMI 40 or higher, but 30+ works if you have medical considerations such as raging diabetes that you need to get under control (or many other conditions.)
Google “weight loss surgical program” for your area, and check out their program information. That web site will tell you a lot about what the requirements are. Generally, they require that you diet and exercise before the surgery, and you are screened and given various classes before surgery so that you know what will work and how to keep the weight off. You will always be dieting after the surgery, but the gastric bypass is a tool that will work.
I lost 100 pounds in 7 months and have so far kept the weight off. I do feel much better, but the arthritis is just as bad and so is the pain. My joints are not as stressed, though, so I hope to keep my original parts for many more years before knee replacement becomes needed. I would be getting a knee done this year or next if I hadn’t gotten that weight off. Also, blood sugar and cholesterol drop when the weight comes off. You will feel more energetic for not packing the equivalent of another person around with you.
would be before they are considered a candidate for gastric
bypass, I consider myself very very over-weight and I was wondering if anyone knew how to see what that average amount is and see if I am a candidate for that procedure/surgery. Not only would it serve to help me get back to that weight I used to be but it would help with my Cholesterol & Fibromyalgia & Arthritis Pain Levels.
Please help if anyone knows what those guidelines are?
