Iraqi officials acknowledged the hangings were imminent, but said the execution time would not be publicised.

Barzan is Saddam's half-brother and served as his intelligence chief during a crackdown in Dujail that killed 148 men and boys 24 years ago. Bandar was chief justice of the revolutionary court that sentenced the Dujail victims to death. Along with Saddam, they were sentenced to death on November 5 after a months-long war crimes trial.

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Louise Arbour said she appealed to Iraqi President Jalal Talabani to allow Barzan and Bandar to seek a pardon. A similar plea on Saddam's behalf went unheeded.
