The Road To Healthy Skin
How Five Minutes Can Save Your Life
http://www.skincancer.org/Tour/ Free Skin Cancer Screening Tour Traveling Cross-Country This Spring and Summer The Skin Cancer Foundation’s Road to Healthy Skin Tour presented by AVEENO® and Rite Aid — which provides free full body skin cancer screenings and the latest skin cancer information — will hit the road again this April. The tour will resume its course across the country making 80 stops at a variety of locations including participating Rite Aid stores. Although skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States, it is also one of the most preventable and, when detected early, treatable forms of cancer. Yet, more than 10,000 people in the US die from skin cancer every year. “Many people don’t know that they should get a yearly skin exam. The goal of this tour is to educate the public about skin cancer and encourage people to schedule regular skin screenings,” said Perry Robins, MD, President of The Skin Cancer Foundation. “Caught in the early stages, skin cancer is almost always curable.” The Road to Healthy Skin Tour will kick off in early April and run through the fall. The tour is expected to screen more than 10,000 people and will visit more than 50 cities at 100 different locations across the country. The screenings will take place in one of two private rooms and are quick, easy and potentially life-saving. The tour will provide printed informational materials and sunscreen samples to help protect skin. Dermatologists participating in the Road to Healthy Skin Tour will be screening patients for the following skin conditions:
Actinic keratosis (AK): It currently affects more than 10 million Americans. AK is the most common type of precancerous skin lesion and, if left untreated, can lead to a cancer known as squamous cell carcinoma. Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC): It is the most common form of skin cancer, affecting more than one million Americans annually. Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC): It is a form of skin cancer affecting more than 250,000 Americans each year and claiming 2,500 lives. Squamous cell carcinoma can sometimes metastasize (spread) quickly so it is important to detect the cancer in its earliest stages. Melanoma is the most serious form of skin cancer and has increased more rapidly than any other form of skin cancer during the past 10 years. With nearly 60,000 cases and 8,000 deaths occurring each year in the United States melanoma has reached epidemic proportions. However, when diagnosed and removed early, melanoma is usually curable.
The Road to Healthy Skin Tour Bus is wheelchair accessible.
