Bathroom Organizers: Creative Ideas for Clearing Clutter

Is your bathroom one big catch-all for dirty clothes, piles of hit-or-miss cosmetics, a reservoir of essential bath products and a storage center for paper products? If it is, some organization is definitely in order.

The bathroom is where a lot of activity takes place. It should also be a place where you can easily find everything you need. After all, it’s one of the smallest rooms in your house, but the place where a disproportionate share of products are stored.

The key to having a bathroom that works with you – and not against you – is organization. This little room can handle a lot of stuff, if you have it properly organized. Everything should have a place to call home that is within easy reach.

Medicine storage

If you have a lot of medications that you store in your bathroom, it’s a good idea to have them sorted for easy access. Not all bathrooms come equipped with adequate storage for medications, but that’s where some bathroom organizers can fill the gap. If counter space is at a premium, then use vertical products that go up – and not out. Consider a vertical pill dispenser to organize your medications. On the other hand, if you have drawer space, then try a prescription bottle drawer organizer. This eliminates the clutter that can accumulate in a medicine cabinet and lets you see at-a-glance the bottles of medications you’re storing. If you have small children you want to keep out of harm’s way, then a locked box, like the Rx Locker, may be right for you. It stores four prescription bottles in a locked, plastic case that’s secured by a three-digit combination lock.

Cosmetic organizers

If your cosmetics are threatening to take over every square inch of counter space, then you must get that clutter under control with an expandable makeup organizer. This hanging, expandable, acrylic makeup organizer rests inside a drawer to keep every piece of makeup in its place. It adjusts in width from 11 inches to 18 inches, which fits most drawers. It features eight various-sized compartments and the clear acrylic lets you see the makeup and not the organizer.

Shower and bath

Out of necessity, most showers become home to shampoos, conditioners, razors, shaving gel and any number of soaps, scrubs and bath products. But by definition, showers and tubs are confined spaces with a limited amount of storage space. The best way to organize and store products is with caddies tucked into a corner or hanging from the water nozzle. You can also install shelving, secured on a rod or on rollers in the corner of the bathroom. No matter where the organizer is located, it makes use of otherwise unused space.

Around the toilet

If you’re looking for storage space, look no further than the toilet. There is space above the tank, around the tank and to the left and right of the toilet bowl. Many storage systems start with the toilet, offering up the wall space above the tank for shelving. These are a great idea, but there’s more space available. Toilet paper caddies tackle the storage issue and store up to four rolls of toilet tissue in one space. Many of the toilet tissue valets also offer a place to store bathroom reading material. It’s a perfect combination.

Bathroom shelving

When it comes to storing products in your bathroom, shelving is almost always one answer to consider. Almost every nook and cranny is fair game for organizers, starting with over-the-door racks that accommodate everything from towels to surplus shampoo and conditioner. There are also storage carts on wheels that can be tucked into a corner, as well as towel racks that can be mounted on the wall. There are also standalone shelves that can keep cosmetics out of the way, but within easy reach.

Towel racks and hooks

When it comes to storing towels, there is almost no limit. There are three-tiered towel racks, space-maker bars that create space where you wouldn’t expect, and double and triple hooks that can be secured to wall space and hang more towels than a single towel bar.

Under the sink

Many bathroom cabinets look like they have oodles of storage space. But when you open the doors to the under-the-sink cabinets, you realize there is no organization. It’s all just one big space. It’s situations like this that make under-the-sink shelving so popular and helpful. This shelving literally doubles the space available. You can also look into products that let you affix the wastebasket to the door of the cabinet under the sink. This keeps the trash out of sight in more ways than one.

Obviously cluttered bathrooms are a common problem. It’s nice to know that there are plenty of solutions – some as easy as installing a towel bar or installing a shelf.
