Rue McClanahan today, after the actress passed away from a stroke early this morning. The tragedy has reminded audiences of her co-star in the series
Bea Arthur, who died last spring.
Arthur was known on
Golden Girls for playing practical Dorothy Zbornak, a role that won her an Emmy Award. Dorothy was a substitute teacher who, after her divorce, moved in with her mom Sophia and pals Blanche and Rose. Hilarity ensued, naturally, and fans couldn't get enough of the long-running show.

Arthur passed away on April 25, 2009 after losing a battle with cancer. The Broadway community and her Golden Girls co-stars paid tribute to the star.
