The Sound That Altered Everything- The Beatles

In 1960, in Liverpool, England, four young men came together to form one of the most accomplished bands in history. They went on to become an inspiration to all other musicians that followed, leaving a legacy as legends of rock. They continue to build more listeners every day and altered the face of music forever.

Officially making them international icons, all four members of the band were welcomed by Queen Elizabeth II when they were awarded the highest honor as she knighted them in 1965. Their already vast popularity only spread and they continued to extend their fan base across the globe from that time forward.

Although they were only together for ten years, The Beatles each continued on after the group’s break-up, and fans loyally support the remaining members even now. On December 8th, 1980, when John Lennon was shot and killed, supporters all across the globe were saddened and mourned his loss with one another. The surviving Beatles all took part in musical tributes to their fallen comrade in arms, and though they hadn’t formally been a group in ten years, Lennon’s death affected them all very hard.

The next Beatle was lost on November 29th, 2001, when George Harrison succumbed to lung cancer, leaving only Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr to honor the legacy of The Beatles. Even after all this time, their popularity has never faltered and presently, Beatles vinyl is some of the most popular on the market.

Receiving an Academy Award for Best Original Song Score for the film ‘Let It Be’ in 1971, and have also won seven Grammy Awards and fifteen Ivor Novello Awards, The Beatles were one of the most successful groups of all time. They have been earned 4 Multi-Platinum albums, four Platinum albums, eight Gold albums, and one Silver album in the United Kingdom, selling more record albums than almost any other band in history, not to mention six Diamond albums, twenty-four Multi-Platinum albums, 39 Platinum albums, and 45 Gold albums in the United States alone.

The Beatles have proved to be inspirational across many decades, and have inspired films, as well as too many other bands to count. Though they have been broken up for over forty years, they still hold a warm spot in hearts around the planet, painters have even dedicated pieces of art to the group. Even as their supporters continue to grow, their music continues to hold true, entertaining crowds everywhere without fail and setting the standard for all other bands that follow, The Beatles really are icons of rock and roll.
