Evangeline Lilly is a seriously tough cookie! Last week, she visited The Tonight Show With Jay Leno and shared her experience of delivering her son, Kahekili (6 months) at home with a midwife. It ended up being a bit more than she bargained for.
“I actually skipped the hospital … We decided to have the baby at home because we wanted it to be a natural birth, and it turns out that it was 30 hours of natural.
“After about five hours of pushing, my midwife and my birthing assistant said, ‘You know, we have a few suggestions.’ And I was like, ‘Really? After five hours of pushing you have a few suggestions? You couldn’t have told me five minutes in?’”
Evangeline says she pushed for a total of eight hours.
“Eight hours of pushing, that’s the part that men don’t understand. Women go, ‘Oh, dear, oh, dear God, eight hours of pushing?’ And the men are like, ‘Okay, eight hours of pushing.’”
Eight hours… that sounds just… ugh. Allow me to pause here and give thanks that I did not have to push for eight hours, and to extend my sympathy to Evangeline.
You can catch the actress in her current movie, Real Steel, in theaters now. Up next for her is a turn as the elf Tauriel in Peter Jackson‘s The Hobbit.
