This is a little lesson that will help out starting out
guitar players that always ask this question “How do I make or play solos good?” well happily I think I have the answer the answer for you!
Arpeggios are going to be hard for you when you start out doing them but if you can’t do them in the start it’s no problem but anyways let’s get to it!
What are arpeggios?Arpeggios are broken notes that can go up or down. They are not power chords but they can be played as power chords but then again they are no longer arpeggios but power chords. They are played most of the time with sweep pick, they can also be play without sweeping but they would sound little bit slower than usual.
Power chord!
E: -----0-----|
B: -----1-----|
G: -----2-----|
D: -----0-----|
A: -----------|
E: -----------|
Arpeggio!
E: -----0-----|
B: ----1-1—---|
G: ---2---2---|
D:--0-----0--|
A: -----------|
E: -----------|
Now here are some arpeggio excises from other song and from me
Something very important to learn before you start to master arpeggios is sweeping!
Sweeping is when you use your picking hand and go down the string in a sweeping motion up and down. Remember that the most important part of this technique is your picking hand so watch you’re picking hand more when you sweep and play arpeggios!
A tout le monde: Megadeth
This is one of my favorite songs from megadeth and this is a thing I want to point out to some of the people that are starting out playing guitar when they are trying to learn how to sweep pick. There are two types of
arpeggios in my book simple slow and fast sweep picking and arpeggios like a tout le monde.
This is the chorus to the song and this part is a “slow arpeggio”
( so go softly and slowly down the G – E string then bring your picking hand back up towards E string and the order should be G>B>E then E>B>G )
eb|------9------9-------7-----7-|
Bb|---10---10---------9---9-----|
Gb|-9---------9-----9-------9---|
Db|-----------------------------|
Ab|-----------------------------|
Eb|-----------------------------|
Now here is part of the a tout le monde solo (don’t be scared)
Now I this is what I call a fast arpeggio which have the tendency to be hard to put together but if you practiced your sweeping then you will have no problem with this !
eb|---------7-10-----7-10/12p9------------------9-12-11~~-|
Bb|-------8--------8-----------10------------10-----------|
Gb|-----7--------7----------------9--------9--------------|
Db|-4/9---------------------------------11----------------|
Ab|----------------------------------12-------------------|
Eb|-------------------------------------------------------|
If you are finding this hard to play then I will give you little tips that will get you a big boost on this solo but remember what I’m going to tell you right now is not going help you right away and then you can play any solos…….so what I think you should do is slow finger string as slowly as you can at a speed were you match your fingering and your pick hand. Also what I what you to try now is this little excise I made up.
eb|--------------------15----------------------------
Bb|-----------------13---14--------------------------
Gb|--------------12---------13------------------9~---
Db|-----------14--------------12---------------------
Ab|--------13-------------------14-----------11------
Eb|-----12-------------------------13-12~~-12--------
Or if that is too hard try these... (Pinky use)
eb|---3-----------------------3--------------0----------
Bb|-----4-------------------4--------------0---8--------
Gb|-------5---------------5--------------8-------7------
Db|---------6-5-------5-6--------------7-----------0----
Ab|-------------4---4----------------0---------------0--
Eb|---------------3----------------0-------------------0
The easies one I could make up (also pinky use)
