Maggie Valley is a great family vacation spot in Haywood County. Cataloochee Valley, in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, is home to the park's only Elk Herd. Cataloochee Ski Area is one of the premier ski resorts in the Eastern US and has one of the longest ski seasons in the South. The Blue Ridge Parkway, which runs through the Blue Ridge and Smoky Mountains, is a favorite for motorcyclists.

From the local section of the parkway, you will find scenic highlights such as the Parkway's highest elevation overlook at Richland Balsam (6,053 feet above sea level). Views of Cold Mountain, Water Rock Knob, Oconaluftee Visitor's Center and Devil's Courthouse Trail are magnificent any time of the year, but breathtaking in the fall.

Lake Junaluska NC is home to the Southeastern Jurisdiction of the United Methodist Church and the World Methodist Council headquarters. Nearby Cherokee NC is home to the Oconauftee Indian Village, which re-creates life during the 1750's and Harrah's Cherokee Casino and Hotel where table and video gambling are available. In addition, Western North Carolina is a major destination for hiking trails, white water rafting and a host of magnificent waterfalls.
