Review: Bela Lugosi's Tales from the Grave #2
I've done my fair share of reviews for anthology comics like Eerie and Creepy before, and while I find them fun to read and entertaining there's still a certain flair missing from them for me. Maybe it's that I didn't grow up with the comics so I can't appreciate them like some people. Maybe it's the relevance factor, the comics aren't as well known now or as circulated as they once were. I'm not sure. But those reading those comics made...

Bela Lugosi's Tales from the Grave #2 Arriving Next Week
Unfortunately, I couldn't make it to Monsterpalooza this year - which sucks because I was looking forward to getting a hand on look at the new Bela Lugosi's Tales from the Grave comic book series. Ed Wood
In Brief: More or less true—but more true in spirit than fact—this is the story of bargain-basement, cross-dressing filmmaker Edward D. Wood, Jr. (Johnny Depp), centering on his strange relationship with down-on-his-luck horror icon Bela Lugosi (Martin Landau). A quirky, warm and loving tribute to one of cinema’s most original characters. So what if he couldn’t make a good movie? Possibly Tim Burton’s best film. Landau won a well-deserved...

Murders in the Rue Morgue / The Raven
In Brief: A double dose of Bela Lugosi from his classic years at Universal. First in Robert Florey’s Murders in the Rue Morgue (1932), and then in Louis Friedlander’s The Raven (1935)—the latter also boasts Boris Karloff in its cast, but it’s really Lugosi’s show. They may not be Lugosi’s absolute best films, but they contain two of his most treasured performances, which is what matters. Review: Few classic horror films have gotten quite as...

Where Xiu Xiu's New Album Always Really Came From
Where Xiu Xiu's New Album Always Really Came FromHuffington Post (blog)Once, some real goths at a party forced us to stop playing verse one of "Bela Lugosi's Dead" over and over, and then they played the whole thing correctly, humiliating us. We responded by playing verse one of "Funeral Rose Garden" over and over.
