Don Feinberg seems accustomed to working ahead of the curve. When he started Vanberg & DeWulf Imports in 1982, there were only five Belgian beers available on the US market. Today there are over a thousand and Don has been responsible, over the last 25-plus years, for bringing in some of the best. He took a notable detour along the way as well, founding Ommegang, producer of Belgian-style ales based in Cooperstown, NY, in 1997 before eventually selling the brewery to Duvel in 2003. Since then he’s redoubled his efforts at Vanberg & DeWulf , where he continues to represent a small but high ... Read Full Story

I've been saving this beer for a few weeks now and decided that last night was to be the right time to open this up. This beer was recommended to me by a fellow beer geek at one of the local breweries last month. Seeing how I've been on a bit of a Belgian streak lately, this beer fit the bill. I'm talking about a Belgian Dark Strong Ale from the trappist monks of Chimay in Baileux, Belgium and their Chimay (Blue) Grande Reserve . This beer has a following and therefore comes with a lot of build up. I've had this beer on ... Read Full Story

Looks like the first organized beer tasting session is gonna take place on Twitter on Saturday evening at 8PM EST. I say "organized" because some of you may have witnessed our impromptu tasting session on New Year's Day on Twitter for the Aleuminati's collaborative " Indoctrinator " Belgian-style Dubbel . We sort of stumbled into it, but it was a smashing, tweeting success by all accounts. This session - Twitter Taste LIVE! Beer - is sure to be a good one too. Both the organizer, Chris Gillis , and event co-host, Jay Brooks , are Aleuminati Aleumni as well (I made that up myself!) ... Read Full Story

I s your brain begging for a beacon of a Belgian beer? Have you found a magic place filled with so many Belgian beers that you feel like you might get weak in the knees seeing the exuberating glory of the mighty brew? But, there is that one voice in the back of your head that is asking you which one is the best, which one do you try first? I know for me, it seems more and more I am liking the Belgian beers that have a more dynamic palate, are less yeasty and less foamy. I really appreciate those that have both ... Read Full Story

I've posted a small slideshow of random Belgian beers on my content page here . There are only about 30 different beers in this particular slideshow, but I plan to post others in the near future ( I have well over 400 photos, so it takes a while to sort, resize and categorize them). If you have wondered what a particular Belgian beer's packaging looked like, perhaps you'll see it here! If not, suggest it for a future slideshow. I hope you enjoy! Read Full Story
It was a lazy Sunday afternoon at Clark's Ale House, with the sun coming through the windows and the banter of hopheads (those who love heavily hopped beers) creating a nice climate to put a few back. "People's Real Ale Fest" brought in beer lovers, like the founder of the event, Abajay Johnston, to the restaurant to taste and enjoy different beers from New York state breweries, including some local brewers like Landmark.

So, as you may have read in today's chat, the long-awaited beer bar Birch & Barley and ChurchKey opens tonight. (The dual name refers to the two floors with different food and themes.) B has been promising 50 draft beers, five traditional-style cask ales and 500 different bottled selections. And they'll have them all ... tomorrow. Because a bar opening, like the course of true love, never runs smooth, none of the bottled beers will be...

"Hops" by the Oregon State University Archives We honestly don't really care where our beer comes from as long as it tastes good. Words like "beechwood aged," "cold filtered," or "triple hopped" bounce off our skulls like a dodge ball. However Two Beers, a brewery in the SoDo neighborhood is different--Two Beers was started by a man with no prior brewing experience. Joel VandenBrink started the brewery last year in a storage unit. He's...
