Edgar Ramirez and Jordi Molla Are Candidates for the ‘Star Trek 2′ Villain

This seems to confirm that Khan will be the villain in Star Trek 2. Originally Benicio Del Toro was attached to star as the iconic villain, but ended up turning down the role this past weekend. This left director J.J. Abrams looking for possible canidates to replace Del Toro, and he may have found his lead villain. According to Variety, Edgar Ramirez and Jordi Molla are both in contention for the suspected role of Khan. Reports continue to fuel to rumor fire since, the role of Khan was originally played by Ricardo Montalbán in the 1982 movie.

Ramirez is best known for his leading role in Olivier Assayas’ miniseries “Carlos”, while Molla recently starred in Colombiana.

The trade reports that the Carlos star will audition for the part via Skype (the things that technology allows us to do) within the next day or so, and a decision is expected to be made by the weekend. Many have praised Ramirez’s work in Carlos, and some have called it magnificent. Ramirez can be seen playing as Ares in Wrath of the Titans.

We can’t really confirm that Khan will be the villain of the movie, but we do know that John Cho, Simon Pegg, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban and Anton Yelchin are all coming back to reprise their respective parts. Also returning are Star Trek screeenwriters Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof.

There is also word of who might Peter Wellers could be playing. At first many (including myself) suspected that he could be playing the older supporting villain of the film when the Alice Eve story broke. But that might not be so. According to EW (via slashfilm), Sellers could be playing a C.E.O. Here’s the direct quote from his agent:

Of course J.J. Abrams is very tight-lipped about his projects but I do know that it’s a substantial role and that Peter is playing a C.E.O.

With Benicio Del Toro confirmed not joining the cast of the movie, who do you think deserves the main villain role?
