A group of faith leaders and officials at the Durham University, in the United Kingdom, have recently extended an invitation to Pope Benedict XVI to visit the Cathedral at the university. If the pontiff accepts, then this could be the first ever papal visit to the North East of England, which would mark a historic moment. Pope Benedict XVI is expected to acknowledge abuse of aboriginals at Christian-run schools when he meets with survivors later this month at the Vatican, a spokesman for the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops said Wednesday. From the 19th century until the 1970s, more than 150,000 Indian children were made to attend state-funded Christian schools as an effort to assimilate them into Canadian society. Nearly 75 percent of the 130 schools were run by Catholic missionary congregations. Apparently faced with public and media pressure, the Nazi Pope, Benedict XVI, shed crocodile tears in Australia feigning sadness and shame for the clergy sex abuse scandal which has cost the Roman Catholic Church billions of dollars worldwide (in the USA alone the amount of settlement paymenst has well exceeded $2 billion). Pope Benedict XVI stressed the common values shared by Christianity and Islam at a meeting with leading members of Cameroon's Muslim community Thursday.
