Mets Need to Hold the Line At One Year For Molina

I think $6 million for one year of Bengie Molina is too much money. But you won’t hear me complaining about it if the Mets ink Molina to such a deal-and the reporting by Joe DeMayo and Jon Heyman indicates they may well do that. Even if the deal includes a team option for year two, that is fine. But the Mets will be making a big mistake going any further than that. Consider that if Bengie Molina simply repeats his 2009, the Mets will be getting, for $6 million, a catcher with an 86 OPS... Read Full Story

Mets Close on Molina?

As reported on NYBD Radio and by Joe Demayo at Twitter the Mets are meeting with Bengie Molina’s agent tonight. The thought is both sides are motivated to get a deal done. Molina is reported to be seeking a 3 year deal while the Mets prefer one year and an option. Demayo believes that if things progress well Molina could be a Met within 24 hours and no later than the end of the winter meetings. Jon Heyman adds the Mets are looking to offer Molina $6 million for next season. Deals can fall... Read Full Story

Mets Persuing Bengie Molina?

From:  bringingheat.com
The New York Mets are still looking for that catcher who can consistently start in 130 games or so. The guy on the market that could and should  fit their price tag is…(Name that Molina…Bengie!). Molina has had a couple pretty decent offensive seasons for the Giants and his bat could be badly needed in New York as the Mets struggled to score runs due to injury. There really isn’t a prospect that’s considered the catcher of the future right now, so why not make a run at Bengie? Perhaps... Read Full Story

Olivo Over Molina

I must admit to being surprised by the reported willingness of the Mets to pay Bengie Molina $6 million for 2010, and possibly go two or even three years in length with his contract. In an offseason where New York has many holes to fill, this represents a sizable chunk of what they’ll be able to spend, for a marginal return. If the conventional wisdom is that Josh Thole needs a year at Triple-A to consolidate his offensive games and improve his defense- not a view I share, but let’s deal... Read Full Story

Memory of father is fresh for Giants C Molina

From:  ap.org
Unlike his three major league sons, Benjamin Molina was not a catcher. He was just everything else. "I still talk to him every day," said San Francisco Giants catcher Bengie Molina, the oldest of the big-league siblings. "A lot of times I hope he could tell me he's OK, wherever he is." Benjamin Molina died suddenly last October, two weeks after the end of the major league season, while doing what he loved. He was teaching young men the game in his native Puerto Rico. He suffered a stroke... Read Full Story
