Bengie Molina, The Giants’ flight just landed in Denver and Bengie Molina was informed of the deal that’ll send him to the Texas Rangers for RHP Chris Ray and a PTBNL.
Molina is saying goodbye to teammates. But he isn’t parting company with them yet. In fact, there’s a chance he will address the media at Coors Field tomorrow.
I just got off the phone with Molina and he said he couldn’t make any comment because the trade still must be approved by MLB. The Giants are sufficiently cautious about that step that they’re having Molina stay at the team hotel in Denver and possibly report to Coors tomorrow.
“I might be at the field tomorrow and address you guys there,” Molina said. “It’s easier. They haven’t told me yet it’s official. The commissioner has to approve something on the deal. So they, Bochy, told me, be aware and just if I don’t hear anything by the time of the game, go to the field.”
As mentioned in a previous post, Molina was a good Giant and he took more punishment than most people realized. He caught the two-time Cy Young award winner and was an inspirational leader. It also was absolutely past time for the Giants to part company with him and conduct the changing of the (shin) guards with Buster Posey.
The Giants are sending roughly $2 million to the Rangers to offset the remaining money owed to Ray and Molina.
The remaining questions to answer tomorrow in Denver: How often will Posey start behind the plate? Who becomes the everyday first baseman, Aubrey Huff or Pablo Sandoval? And who stands to pick up the most at-bats?
