We lost two big figures in comedy and music this past weekend. Funny man Bernie Mac died on Saturday and musician and actor Isaac Hayes died on Sunday. I didn't believe it when I first read about Bernie Mac. He's definitely one of my favorite comedians of all time and I really had to read the article a few times before it sank in. That dude was straight up hysterical and one of the more creative comedians of his time. He was only 50 years old and always seemed very healthy but it... Read Full Story

By now you’ve probably all heard about Bernie Mac dying on Saturday morning, August 9, 2008. He was only 50 years old. I was reading lots of articles about it that day, and I just couldn’t help thinking, wow, I’m almost 45. Someone dying at 50 seems very wrong. From what I read, Bernie died from complications with pneumonia . Most people do not die from pneumonia, but apparently Bernie had a pre-existing condition called sarcoidosis , a term which anyone who watches House will have heard... Read Full Story

He was Chicago’s own successful comedian and movie star and many around here could say “I knew him when…”. He attended a popular high school here; Chicago Vocational High school and even after all his success in comedy, movies and his TV show, The Bernie Mac Show , he still lived in the suburbs of Chicago with his wife of over 30 years. Besides... Read Full Story

Fending off the stiff stoner challenge of Pineapple Express , The Dark Knight made it four weeks at the top over the weekend, padding its record-setting haul by a further $26 million. That's under Express 's five-day $40.4 million opening weekend, but only counting Friday-to-Monday (when the Seth Rogen comedy tallied $22.4 million) gives Knight its edge.
