Gammonites screw Bernie again

By ITISHIGHITISFAR on  From johnsterling.blogspot.com
Why stop now? For years, whenever it came to an All-Star ballot, they championed the likes of Darin or Kenny or Grady or anybody in a non-Eastern Time Zone. Today, they added cream pie to the face: Bernie Williams received 55 Hall of Fame votes, about one-third of the total for the immortal Fred McGriff (137). Bernie barely escaped the 5 percent killshot, a threshhold that cut from future voting the likes of Jeremy Burnitz and Tim Salmon. I said this before: Someday, 10 Lindsay Lohans from...Read Full Story

Quote: Bernie Williams on the Hall of Fame Ballot

By rabruzzese on  From bronxbaseballdaily.com
It has been five years since Bernie Williams stopped playing baseball which means he is now included on the Hall of Fame ballot. Personally I’d like to see him be included in the Cooperstown, but I think his numbers will fall just short of inclusion. Here is a statement from Bernie via the NY Post : “To know your name is on the Hall of Fame ballot means you were blessed to have a long and successful career. The voting is something I have no control over,” Williams said in a statement...Read Full Story

Let’s ask Erardi!...okay, maybe not. I was watching the Hall of Fame announcement show on the MLB Network on Monday–congratulations to a very deserving Barry Larkin–and something Peter Gammons said as an aside in a discussion of Bernie Williams’ suitability for the Hall of Fame stuck with me: “He wasn’t as good as Kirby Puckett,” the Great Gammo almost muttered, as they cut to a commercial break. I haven’t been able to put that comment out of...

Bernie’s 3 (low/max). My ninth vote was somewhat of a surpise, even to me: Longtime Yankees center fielder Bernie Williams, in his first year of eligibility.  He played 16 seasons and was a major contributor on four World Series champions. Williams easily met the hits (2,336) and batting average (.297) criteria that I use. The fact he is the alltime leader in postseason RBIs with 80 speaks strongly in his favor, especially since I think of him...
