Rubio’s Fresh Mexican Grill currently serves more than (12) different Tacos. We’ve tried most, but feature only (4) here. They’re not necessarily our favorites, but what’s photographed thus far. We’ll be adding to this post, as we sample others. Pictured above is the Grilled Portobello & Poblano Taco — It’s pretty messy, but is one of our favorites
This day we also tried the Grilled Mesquite Shrimp Taco , the Carnitas Rajas Taco and the All American Taco (R.I.P.), no longer on... Read Full Story
It appears that many love Taco Mesa Restaurant – That’s what I’ve heard and it always seems to have a packed patio of diners. Today we tried a sampling of a few Tacos. From top to bottom, left to right, we enjoyed their Taco Alambre, Salmon Taco, Al Pastor Taco, Potato Chorizo and Egg Taco, and their Blackened Chicken Breast New Wave Taco.
We like that Breakfast is served all day and that we’re able to have a Potato Chorizo and Egg Taco at night. All Tacos were good, but we... Read Full Story

Gloria Chadwick of Cookbook Cuisine was one of the first friends I met when I started this blog last summer. When she invited her readers to review her new cookbook Foods and Flavors of San Antonio of course I jumped at the chance. Honestly, I don't know where to start. It's a Tex-Mex Cookbook and so much more. The love Gloria has for San Antonio, her place of residence, is evident. To begin with Gloria takes us on a Tex-Mex tour of San Antonio and includes web sites for further... Read Full Story
Having lived in Tulsa for more than a quarter century, I’ve had my share of meals that by most accounts would fall into the Mexican food genre.
Set down in front of me on technicolor Fiestaware has been everything from the cheese-doused, deep-fried chimichanga filled with Rotel and composite chicken to handmade tamales I had to order either in Spanish or by number from one of those back-lit menu boards we know from snack bars at high school basketball games.
I know I just painted the two... Read Full Story

We've passed by so many taquerias in the last few days that we decided the only thing to do is try as many as we can. We started with the one across the street from our hotel, El Hospital. They only serve one type of taco (10 pesos each), a pork taco, and some kind of soup. They were pretty bland and uninteresting, so we moved on. A couple of blocks of south, we spotted a colorful joint called Tacochido. Lon couldn't resist the Super Taco Chido, a mix of meats (beef steak, flank steak, ground... Read Full Story
Mexicana Mama Centro Mexicana Mama Centro opened up a few blocks from us, and became a last minute resort for dinner when our plans changed. We grabbed one of the three little tables outside and enjoyed the perfect weather this evening, starting with a Salsa Piquin (the salsa of the day) with tortilla chips. We do think it's a little cheap for a Mexican restaurant to charge for chips and salsa but we would pay the $4.50 for this salsa again. It was like a Mexican spiced Vodka Sauce, a little... You may have seen the T-shirts, but have you experienced Dos Coyotes recently? I’m referring to this Tex-Mex restaurant’s motto “Have you had your Dos?” – prominently displayed on its menus and T-shirts – because, truly, once you’ve started eating at Dos Coyotes, it’s hard not to make it a habit. (Just ask my husband!) Fresh and delicious, with plenty of offerings to satisfy both young and old, Dos Coyotes is a great informal place to experience southwest food.
We head for our “Dos... Read Full Story
