Betsy McCaughey, Mother of 'Death Panel' Rumors, Talks to Jon Stewart: Video
Betsy McCaughey, the former Lieutenanat Governor of New York, is one person reponsible for starting the "death panel" rumors about Barack Obama's health care bill. She appeared on The Daily Show last night to speak with Jon Stewart. Although McCaughey didn't coin the term "death panel", she is considered largely responsible for spreading the idea behind it - that the healthcare bill would enforce end of life consultations - which it would not.

McCaughey, who, according to some, has a reputation for distorting the truth about healthcare legislation, made several claims in the interview that she was unable to back up with evidence. The Huffington Post reported that "Stewart, at one point, contended that McCaughey's take on the matter was 'hyperbolic' and 'dangerous.'"
Producers of the show allowed the interview to run longer than normal. The interview in its entirety is also available to watch online.
