Well, boys’n'gals…Bette Davis is almost ready. Or at least the painting is almost ready :p Hair’s done. Or lets put it like this: I’ve stopped painting her hair otherwise I would get stuck there and add way too much details. And this is not really suppose to look like a photo. It’s suppose to be a painting. I also removed almost all of the sketch from her face. There’s just a few tiny details that are left to do on the face….and I can’t decide if I should add them or leave them out. It’s nothing that would make her look more like Bette ... Read Full Story

Since we’re not really celebrating New Year with a party or anything, I’m painting :p And the TV is on in the background…Robin is watching QI. Anyway…it’s another 30 minutes left until this decade is over here in England and I’ve done some more work on Bette. Her eyes are now ready except from the lashes. Eyebrows are done (just as painted in the photo as they are in my painting) and the nose and lips have had a makeover as well. As I’m painting details now I’m also correcting any shades that might be too dark or too bright. There’s a golden rule ... Read Full Story

For some reason I got stuck in a silly game when I was suppose to open Photoshop again earlier, which means that I’ve spent less than two hours during the evening painting on this :p But I’ve finished the eyes :D At least the iris, eye whites and that bit. Still fiddling with eyelashes. The shading is a real challenge. The more I look at the reference photo, the more levels of grey I find and I can continue painting her skin forever :p Although, at some point I will have to settle for only a few grey’s since I don’t want to paint ... I’m painting eyes. And so far one of them is almost done :) It’s fiddly since the reflection in them and the light make them look almost bottomless. So far I’ve got 6 layers only for the iris and another 2 layers for the eye whites. And then there’s 1 layer for the upper eyelashes and the area right below the eyes and above the lower lashes. The lower lashes will be among the last details I add since they are so thin. By the time I’m done with her hair, I’ve got the right “touch” to do those :p The right eye is ... Read Full Story
