Of course, almost all digital cameras nowadays have an LCD display which allows you to view your picture once you've taken it. You can also look at the screen in order to tell what your photo will look like before you actually snap it.
Probably the most important thing to consider, though, is resolution. Resolution measures the clarity of the picture and how well it will reproduce.
Most cameras have a resolution of between three and seven megapixels. Megapixels are the standard by which resolution is measured, so the higher the megapixels, the better the quality of your photos will be. Also, if you suspect you'll want to enlarge some of your pictures, then you do need to get at least a three megapixel camera, or else you'll end up with low quality images.
