Theatrical trailer for the 1943 Technicolor musical, CONEY ISLAND, starring Betty Grable, George Montgomery, Charles Winninger and Phil Silvers. St. Louis born, Betty Grable (birth name Elizabeth Ruth Grable), broke into films in 1930 at age of thirteen when her mother exaggerated her daughter's age. She was a Goldwyn Girl and appeared in minor roles for most of the decade until she landed a starring role -- along with Don Ameche and Carmen Miranda -- in DOWN AGRENTINE WAY (1940). With here sholesome looks, dancing and singing ability and gorgeous games (--once isured for a million dollars by Lloyds of London--) she soon became one the screen's highest paid stars, not to mention the most popular (and best paid Stars), not to mention the archetypal "pin-up girl" of World War II.
