- Eric Schmidt: Google Isn't Killing The Newspaper Business (feedburner.com)
Google is attempting to appease paid content providers with a couple of new updates to news search features.

Google is only allowing users 5 free accesses per day. Previously, it was easy to game the system and access a bunch of pages on a site without...

If you want to learn more about how fast your site loads, then you'll want to check out a new feature from Google Webmaster Central. It's appropriately (and a bit vanilla-y) called Site Performance and right now it's an experimental feature.
It will measure the speed of your site and then make suggestions for a quicker load time.

As I reported a few weeks back, News Corp. Chief Executive Rupert Murdoch said his company was considering blocking Google from being able to search its Web sites. I used my tabloid headline generator to create "Murdoch to Google: Drop Dead."
Today, the Google News Blog announced "Same Protocol, More Options for News Publishers." If we run this through my tabloid translator, I think we'd get the following headline: "Google to Murdoch: Here...

Remember the tests Google has been running on their homepage lately? Well, now they're officially rolling out the new version.
What they've decided to go with is the fade-in version. When you get access to the updated homepage (which is rolling out over a few days), you'll just see the Google logo, the search box, and the submit buttons.
Then, when you move your mouse, the rest of the page will fade in.
So why the change? Google's...

When you browse the web, you type in the domain name of the URL you wish to visit. But behind every URL is an IP address - and it takes a bit of computing to get you where you want to go. The URL is kind of like a nickname, but your computer will actually need to access the legal name, the IP, in order to view the site. This can take several steps of resolution, which is all done behind the scenes.
