Hey Jennifer Aniston, Here's Some Wedding Dress Inspiration, Courtesy of Rachel Green
(Photos by NBC)
Jennifer Aniston and her boyfriend Justin Theroux announced their engagement on Sunday, much to the delight of gossip mags and celebrity watchers, who had been wringing their hands for years that poor Jen would be FOREVER ALONE (nevermind the countless hot boyfriends she's had since divorcing Brad Pitt in 2005).
And while fashion bloggers were quick to speculate about hot-off-the-runway wedding dress options, we think Aniston's nuptial inspiration could come from a more, well, Friends-ly source. Rachel Green never actually got married during Friends' 10-year run, but that doesn't mean Jen can't draw some inspiration from the NBC comedy's many weddings. Let's take a look at the options:
"The Pilot" (1.01)
The birth of our favorite TV pals all started when Rachel ran out of her wedding to boring orthodontist Barry. The wedding dress, with its beaded bodice, flouncy skirt, and elaborate poofy headpiece was classic early-Friends Rachel Green, but we can't imagine that Jen Aniston would ever be caught dead in it.
"The One With the Lesbian Wedding" (2.11)
Friends should be applauded for being way ahead of its time with a lesbian wedding between Ross' ex-wife Carol and her girlfriend Susan all the way back in 1996. If Jen Aniston is looking for wedding dress ideas, though, she should look elsewhere. The hats alone are totally cringe-worthy.
"The One With Barry & Mindy's Wedding" (2.24)
What do you wear to the wedding of your ex-fianceé and your ex-BFF? A hideous Pepto Bismol pink bridesmaid dress and hat, obviously! Rachel gets her revenge, though, when she steals the new couples' thunder by walking down the aisle with her dress tucked into her underwear. A lesson for Aniston: If you don't want to get shown up on your big day, just avoid bridesmaids all together.
"The One With All the Wedding Dresses" (4.20)
When Ross sent Monica to a bridal store to pick up his fiancé Emily's wedding gown, Gellar just couldn't help herself. Phoebe eventually joined in and the gal pals had a field day tossing the bouquet to each other. Remember Jen, there's no harm in taking potential dresses out for a spin before the big walk down the aisle.
"The One With Ross' Wedding" (4.23 & 4.24)
Rachel flew all the way to London to try and stop Ross' wedding to Emily, then ended up chickening out at the last minute. But not to worry, Ross slipped up during his vows and said Rachel's name instead of his bride's name. While Emily ended up unlucky in love, her wedding dress has stood the test of time fairly well. Fellow Brit Kate Middleton also rocked a demure wedding shrug at her royal nuptials.
"The One in Vegas" (5.23)
There weren't any wedding dresses when Ross and Rachel tied the knot in Las Vegas, but there was plenty of alcohol and Sharpie face drawing. The world is waiting to see what Jennifer Aniston will wear on her wedding day, but it wouldn't be all that surprising if Jen eschewed the pomp and circumstance for a quiet elopement.
"The One With Monica & Chandler's Wedding" (7.23 & 7.24)
Friends fans everywhere let out a collective 'awwwwwww' when Monica and Chandler finally made it official. Aniston's real-life BFF Courteney Cox looked lovely in the simple wedding gown, which was classic without being dull and modern without being trendy. The floor-length veil doesn't seem like Aniston's style, but it would look lovely all the same.
"The One With Phoebe's Wedding" (10.12)
Jennifer Aniston attempted to romance Paul Rudd in the 1998 romantic comedy, The Object of My Affection, and eight years later Lisa Kudrow got to marry the dapper dude during Friends' final season. Phoebe somehow managed go sans coat for her outdoor wedding (which took place in the middle of an NYC winter), which allowed her to show off the pretty strapless neckline of her wedding gown. No one wants to get frostbite on her wedding day, but don't underestimate the power of a wow moment, Jen.
