Kit Harington And Emilia Clarke Hate Kissing Each Other, Which Explains Why Daenerys And Jon Snow Have Zero Chemistry

Harington once pretended to gag after the two wrapped up a steamy kissing scene.

Kit Harington and Emilia Clarke, co-stars of the hit fantasy drama Game of Thrones, are very attractive people. If given the chance, fans would line up for hours to get so much as a hug from them. Apparently, however, the two would rather step on burning coals than share a kiss — let alone have a makeout sesh — even for the sake of television.

In newly released Game of Thrones Season 8 highlights, the actors and crew detailed the romantic scene between Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen by the waterfall in episode one (which, by the way, was actually a canyon they added a waterfall to in post-production).

But that wasn't the most interesting bit. Upon wrapping a take of the kiss, Harington jokingly gagged as he pulled away from Clarke. If Khaleesi's dragons had been there to see it, they probably would've unleashed their wrath on Jon — err, Aegon. Of course, it was all in good fun. The two are the best of friends, after all.

Watch the kiss (and gag) around the 13:49 mark:

In an interview with Variety, Clarke shared how awkward it was to film intimate scenes opposite someone she considers family.

"The first scene we had together, we both just started laughing," she said. "Why are you looking at me this strange way and saying these strange lines? You’re my friend!"

The fake retching was also apparently Harington's way of making the situation less weird.

As Harington told Vanity Fair, "If you’ve known someone for six years, and they’re best friends with your girlfriend, and you’re best friends with them, there is something unnatural and strange about doing a love scene. We’ll end up kissing and then we’re just pissing ourselves with laughter because it’s so ridiculous."

It wasn't until the end of Game of Thrones Season 7 that the two even shared screen time. Their first meeting at Dragonstone was filled with tension, as both characters knew the other was gunning for the throne. Jon eventually bent the knee for Daenerys and the two started getting romantic, but their budding relationship is further complicated by the fact that they're related — Jon is a Targaryen, making him Daenerys' nephew. Yikes!

Neither Jon nor Dany knew they were related. Still, the chemistry between the two was practically nonexistent, and fans are all over the glaring awkwardness.

Clarke and Harington's friendship could explain why Jon and Dany lack romantic chemistry on screen. Imagine being asked to give your sibling a peck on the lips? Gross!

Sigh. Jon and Daenerys probably won't be endgame anyway. Both are certified Targaryens, and both have equal chances of sitting on the Iron Throne. We bet our bottom dollar their Westerosi romance means nothing to them compared to the throne.
