Bhavana Balachandran (born 6 June 1986) is a South Indian actress who acts in Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu movies. She made her debut in Kamal's Nammal which won her critical acclaim and various honours, including the State award.
Several Malayalam language films, such as Youth Festival and Police were dubbed into Tamil prior to her straight debut, however like many dubbed films they flopped leaving Bhavana without a solid platform to start from. Her first straight Tamil venture, Chithiram Pesuthadi opposite another newcomer, Narain was released in early 2006 but flopped and didn't run for two weeks. However after the audio launch, which happened after the film's release, the film was back in the theatre's. The film became a huge success and ran for over 100 days, primarily down to Gaana Ulaganathan's song in the film. Bhavana then became a sought after heroine and she went on a signing spree, picking to act with young heroes. But her next film Kizhakku Kadalkarai Salai, released in late 2006 did not perform well at box-office though there were high expectations. However her most successful movie in 2006 was Veyil opposite Bharath released in December 2006.
In 2007, her first release was Deepavali opposite Jayam Ravi in February which got her rave reviews and became a hit. Her latest release to date is Koodal Nagar, which she paired yet again with Bharath in sharing frames with Sandhya. Her recent projects are Arya opposite Madhavan, Rameswaram with Jeeva and Vaazhthukal, yet again with Madhavan.
