The Big Cypress Market Place opens Friday at 220 Basik Road, which is U.S. 41, about four miles southeast of State Route 951 in Collier County.

Q: Has the Daily News given an update on the status of the new flea market located on U.S. 41 East and when it will open? The last news I read from your paper stated it would open the end of July or in August!  

The National Weather Service in Miami has issued a tornado warning for southeastern Collier County - including Tamiami Trail, Big Cypress National Preserve and surrounding communities until 11:00 p.m.

Mention of peak water makes me think of water rising "up high", reaching up into the "high ground" of Big Cypress National Preserve's hydric and mesic pinelands.

Big Cypress Elementary School students will have an addition to their natural habitat science classroom, thanks to the Education Foundation of Collier County. The school’s garden, which includes a pond, was granted funds for its new butterfly garden and hummingbird plants around its perimeter.  

It would be fair to consider Moses Jumper Jr. a Renaissance Man. He owns a 500-herd of cattle on Big Cypress. He's also a storyteller, poet, children's book writer, an athlete and recreation director for his Seminole Tribe.
