Inside, they found Charlie Ray Hodges, 50, shot to death. Autry's father had contacted authorities from his cell phone while hiding in the attic, and a cleaning lady who escaped the house, helped authorities sort out what was going on.
Clarionledger.com reports that an amateur video shot at the scene shows Autry shooting at police officers before retreating inside the house.
The Oxford Police Department had received a 911 call at 12:53 p.m. about a man with a gun in the yard of the home.
When officers arrived, the gunman ran inside the house. Shortly thereafter, officers heard gunfire from within. The suspect came out into the garage, fired at officers and ducked back into the house, according to a news release from the Police Department. About this time, the woman escaped from the house.
Officers reached the father by cell phone but lost contact with him. SWAT officers were unable to establish communication with the gunman. They later entered the home, arrested Bilethon Autry and found the father unharmed in the attic.
