The 17-year-old son of New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick has to stay out of trouble for six months to escape a charge for alcohol possession in the Gillette Stadium parking lot.

Brian Belichick was arrested Monday afternoon, the day of the NCAA lacrosse title match, after police found him holding a can of beer during a patrol for underage drinkers, authorities said.

The younger Belichick appeared in Wrentham District Court on Tuesday. His case was continued without a finding for six months, meaning if he stays out of trouble, the charges will dropped.

Norfolk district attorney's spokesman David Traub said Belichick will have to pay $200 in court costs and complete an educational program on the potential consequences of drinking.

The Cowboys have signed three free agents: tight end Scott Chandler, receiver Mike Jefferson and defensive end Derreck Robinson.

Chandler was a fourth-round pick by San Diego in 2007 and was inactive for all but one game that year before spending the 2008 season on injured reserve.

Jefferson was on the Cowboys' practice squad last year before his October release. Robinson spent two seasons with the Chargers and one with Miami but hasn't played since 2007.

Dallas has two more weeks of organized offseason workouts and a mandatory minicamp in mid-June before training camp starts July 29 in San Antonio. The Cowboys have 83 players on their roster after today's signings.
